Well, it’s that time of year again when all the ghouls and goblins make their way into the streets and up our driveways for a trick or treat. The real trick is not be bewitched by the fun. Paul used the word bewitched to describe what was happening in the churches in Galatia. The word bewitched means, “to place under one’s power by or as by magic; cast a spell over.”

Now, you may be thinking, “Well, those first century Christians might have been bewitched and put under a spell, but in the 21st century, there’s no way I can be spiritually bewitched.” That’s a dangerous attitude, because our real enemy is the same one those believers faced. Our true enemy isn’t some false teacher; our real enemy is the devil, whom Jesus called “the Liar.” Martin Luther said, “The tricky devil can make a lie look like the truth. Since he has this uncanny ability to make us believe a lie until we would swear a thousand times it were the truth, we must not be proud, but walk in fear and humility, and call upon the Lord Jesus to save us from temptation.”

As you think about going out to trick or treat with your children I want you to have a great time and be safe. Even more than that, I want you make sure the devil hasn’t bewitched you into believing a lie. The truth is Jesus is the ONLY way to enter heavens doors. Why, because He (Jesus) is the ONLY ONE who could pay the cost of sin for you. Jesus died and rose from the dead and wants to have a relationship with you today!

“Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12
