It was suggested last week that I do a “Girl Talk” with the older girls in the Children’s Ministry and their moms about different changes they are or will soon be experiencing. I instantly fell in love with this idea. I have been wanting to do something with this age group and their moms for awhile now. Girls at this age are experiencing lots of new things both emotionally and physically. Talking about these changes in a Jesus-centered atmosphere is just what we need. This special night will be for girls in 5th – 6th grade. However, if you have a 4th grade girl and you think you will both benefit from this night, you are welcome to come. Every girl matures at a different rate, and you as the mom know best if your daughter is ready. Also, any 7th-8th grade girls and moms are welcome to join us!

On Friday Night, October 25th, we will have our first JumpStart “Girls Night.” We will have special treats and a lot of fun.

Here is the proposed itinerary:
6:30-6:45: Welcome and Chocolate
6:45-7:15: Split Group Discussion on all things emotional!
Moms: Maybe you have already woken to your daughter transforming from a sweet little girl to something more like an emotional cyclone, or maybe you are just dreading the day. During this session you will be watching an incredible video session by Sissy Goff from the series “Raising Boys and Girls”. There is no way that I could say it any better than she does. It is about 20 minutes in length, so you can have some time to discuss after the clip.
Girls: You will be with me discussing the new emotions you are experiencing. We will talk about things such as the “brain hiccup” and why suddenly you might want your mom to drop you off 3 blocks away from the front door of school.
7:15-7:30: Break! Enjoy this girl time!
7:30-8:00: How and Why your body is changing
*Moms, please know that I will be discussing the basic changes in the female body. We will talk about hormones and what to expect when “mother nature” pays her visit. I will NOT be discussing “intimate” issues. When your daughter is ready for that conversation, I believe you should be the one to talk with her. I am always here to help you if you need me to do so. But, I do not feel comfortable discussing that topic in a large group.

There will be no charge for this night of fun! Tell other moms you know and have them bring their daughters! We will have a sign up list at church and on the website later this week. Also, this date is on the calendar, but if there is a major conflict with the majority of our girls, we can certainly find another night.

Blessings,
Molly
