Section 1.0 Part Time Worship Leader

FBC, Henderson is committed to providing the greatest opportunity possible for worship and service. One vital part of our ministry is that of Part Time Worship Leader. The position must be properly supported to be effective in reaching the lost and nurturing the saved.

Section 1.1 Requirements

The individual must have a deep personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. He must have a vital, growing relationship with Jesus Christ, a passion for worship, and a humble, team-oriented heart, and must be an active member of a Southern Baptist Church. This position will require an individual who is comfortable with a blended worship of both traditional and contemporary music. Musical training and education is preferred, but experience shall also be considered in lieu of formal education and training.

Section 1.2 Principle Function

With the Pastor’s approval and support, or at the Pastor’s suggestion, the Part Time Worship Leader is to plan, organize, coordinate, and lead the Music program. The object of the Music program is worship, not performance.

Section 1.3 Supervision

The Part Time Worship Leader serves as a team member of the Paid Ministerial Staff under the functional supervision of the Pastor. However, the Part Time Worship Leader will search out the Pastor (or Interim Pastor) for direction and supervision, and will assist in leading parts of worship services as directed by the Pastor (or Interim Pastor).

Section 1.4 Areas of Responsibility

1. Plan, organize, coordinate, and lead the Music portion of the worship service for Sunday morning.

2. Prepare and administer the annual Music Budget with respect to the Music Program with input from the music committee.

3. Cooperate in promoting activities, goals, policies, and traditions of mutual interest to the denomination and church.

4. Provide leadership to the Music program.

5. Report at regular business meetings, as needed, on the Music.

6. Keep informed of current music methods, materials, promotion and administration, utilizing them where appropriate.

7. Discuss music selections with the Pastor (or Interim Pastor).

8. Notify the church office of selections prior to bulletin publication.

9. Form and direct a choir

10.Prepare MediaShout or other Church Presentation Programs for use at any necessary service.

11. Teach and direct supplemental music ministries as time allows.

12.Work with the pianist(s), and adult choir accompanist(s), soloist(s), special music ensembles, and Sound Committee as to what is expected of them, and approve all special music for scriptural content. Provide constructive criticism in a discreet manner not to cause any embarrassment. Coordinate rehearsal and performance schedules and inform persons of any special requirements prior to rehearsal or performance. Provide oversight/supervision to all other choir leader(s) to coordinate worship programs.

13.Plan and direct special music programs such as pageants, cantatas, Christmas or Christmas Eve services, or other specific services.

14.Supervise the maintenance of the music library and instruments, including maintenance of all license agreements.

15.Plan and implement evangelistic and testimonial services on special occasions as much as possible.

16.Other duties as determined by the Pastor (or Interim Pastor).

Section 1.5 Hours of Work

The Part Time Worship Leader is expected to be available for services on Sunday morning and to be available to prepare and conduct rehearsals as needed. During periods of absence from regular worship services due to sickness, vacation, etc., the Part Time Worship Leader is responsible for securing a replacement to meet the duties of the job, with such substitute being subject to approval by the Pastor. In the event of an emergency, the Music Committee may also secure such a replacement.
