I want to confess something to you, “I hate to shop!” I realize however that there are times when I must brave the isles at the grocery store and go pick up a few items. This is my strategy: I know what I’m looking for so I only shop for the things that meet my need. That reminds me of how God is constantly looking out for us in order to meet our specific needs.

Judah’s King Asa had moved from trusting God to trusting others to meet his need. He foolishly thought he could do God’s work on his own and that he and the king of Aram could defeat Israel’s king without God’s help. The Lord wasn’t pleased! The Lord would watch out for Israel and supply His strength on their behalf as long as they stayed focused on Him. Yet King Asa tried to be clever and develop his own alliances which caused Judah heartache.

This is still true today. God continues to watch out for us and strengthen us in our time of need. Yet unlike King Asa, we must maintain focus on the One true God and trust Him to completely meet our needs and to take care of us.

“For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him. In this you have done foolishly; therefore from now on you shall have wars.” 2 Chronicles 16:9
